Hello, my name is Chris McBride or Scotty as I am known around Camp Y.I. I was born and raised in Prestwick, Scotland. I lived there for 18 years, and in August 2007 I came to Tennessee to attend college and play soccer. I received a scholarship to Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. I am currently a junior studying Physical Education and will be entering my final year at Martin in the fall of 2010.

Back in Scotland, we as children never had the opportunity to attend camps, simply because we didn’t have them. So, when I was introduced to Camp Y.I by Katie Cooper who had attended camp since she was 5, I loved the idea of it! Helping children grow, laugh and have fun was perfect for me. I love helping people and where better to start than with children?

The summer of 2010, will see my second year at Camp Y.I. I have played every sport under the sun since I could walk, one of the first being swimming therefore naturally I became a lifeguard at camp. This summer I have been honored with the roles of a counselor and director of the pool. Since camp ended last summer I have been counting down the days till camp begins again.

I believe that camp is not only beneficial, but essential to the children as well as myself. Last summer I saw myself make friendships with fellow counselors I will keep for life and learned more about myself in 8 weeks than I have in the last decade. I also met some of the most amazing children in the world. Camp is one of the best things that you could give your child and I can promise that this summer will be one of the best yet!
